Black Ops 6 Fans Demand Removal of Gun Cocking After Respawn

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 fans are calling on Treyarch to remove one all-too-common feature that is causing issues for the upcoming title.

The Black Ops 6 Beta has now come to an end, and fans appeared to have largely enjoyed their time with Treyarch’s upcoming series entry.

However, there were a few issues to iron out when it comes to our new Call of Duty.

And while Activision has been assuring fans that big changes are coming to Black Ops 6 before launch, the publisher didn’t touch on one of the game’s most controversial mechanics: weapon cocking.

Fans Want Gun Cocking Removed From Black Ops 6

In a popular post made to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 subreddit, fans are calling on the development team to remove gun cocking from the upcoming title.

For those unaware, whenever you respawn in Black Ops 6, your Operator will ready their weapon with a unique animation. Usually, this consists of pulling back the weapon’s cocking handle, bolt, or hammer, priming the gun to fire upon pulling the trigger.

Prepare to see this every time you respawn in Black Ops 6!

These animations are a nice detail that makes the weaponry feel more ‘real,’ but they’re becoming increasingly unpopular among fans of the series.

The biggest issue with gun cocking in its current form is that Black Ops 6 has a lot of small maps that could see you dead before you even finish the animation.

In addition, with Black Ops 6 spawns still causing issues, players can respawn directly in the line of fire, and be unable to shoot back until their gun is primed.

And if you run out of ammo in a tense situation and need to resort to using another player’s gun, it’s particularly frustrating to have to let the animation play out once again.

Fixing the Issue

Fans are able to cancel the animation by double-tapping the weapon swap button, but that still leaves Black Ops 6 players temporarily vulnerable until the swapping animation is complete.

What’s more, it’s frustrating to do this trick every time you die, especially on Strike Map modes, where players have a shorter life expectancy.

Reddit user JacobH_RL came up with a good solution to the issue:

If the animation was immediately interruptable by performing basic actions, then it wouldn’t be an issue.

Earlier this year, Sledgehammer Games ended up listening to fan feedback and removing the weapon check animation from smaller maps on Modern Warfare 3.

Hopefully, Treyarch will make a similar change, and this won’t be as big of a problem when release day rolls around.
